I recently sat down with Laura from Mind Body Balance Therapies from here in Melfort. She is a mother of 4, a Wellness educator, Bodytalk practitioner, and Self-Care advocate. Through her business she offers Bodytalk, Lymphatic Drainage, an aromatherapy product line, aromatherapy consultations & Aromatic Lymphatic Massage. She has also created her own line of family aromatherapy products called ‘Baby Steps Aromatherapy’ offering safe, effective health solutions from newborn to mama!
Can you tell me what you do as an aromatherapist?
As an aromatherapist I offer workshops to educate and train people on safely using essential oils with children, pets and in the home. I also prepare custom blends for clients and their families to help address health concerns and I offer aromatic lymphatic massage as a therapy to detox the body.
Speaking of safe oil usage in the home, what are some of the biggest mistakes that you see families do when using essential oils?
Three of the biggest mistakes I see that families make using essential oils in the home are:
~ improper dilution rates with children
~ use of oils on the skin without a carrier oil
~ use of blends and oils on children that are unsafe (oils that belong to the phenol family; cinnamon bark, clove, oregano).
When used safely and with proper dilution, essential oil remedies can be super effective at supporting your little one’s body systems for speedy healing and recovery!
Can you tell me more about your Baby Steps Aromatherapy line?
Baby Steps is a line of products and training providing safe, natural solutions for your young family’s health and wellness. As a certified aromatherapist, and a mother of 4, I know first hand that safety is of utmost importance when using essential oils with your family.
The three most popular picks from that line are the Breathe Easy Baby Balm, Rescue Balm and the Shhhh Baby Roller.

The Breathe Easy Balm is safe for ages 2 months and up and will support your little one’s respiratory system through upper respiratory congestion and cold symptoms. Apply to chest, back or bottom of feet every 2-3 hours as needed.
The Rescue Balm is a product designed to support all issues relating to skin for your little one. It is safe for newborns & up and helps to soothe diaper rash, dry skin, eczema, and sun burns. Apply directly to affected area as needed.

The Shhh Baby roller is a blend to help calm the nervous system as your little one settles for the night. It’s safe for newborns and up. Apply to bottom of feet or behind the neck 30 minutes before bed time.
Where can people get these products?
The entire Baby Steps line plus 5 of my most popular adult/family products are available at Nutters Bulk & Natural Foods in Melfort.
What are some other things that you do, other than aromatherapy?
I’ve created a series of Mindfulness workshops, seminars and retreats that offer a new perspective on health & wellness from a balanced bodymind approach with a focus on intentional awareness of the influence of the subconscious mind on our mental, physical and emotional health.
My niche audience is mostly women & children but my focus is on wellness for the whole family. My vision is to influence as many lives as I can to create a habit of continual and consistent self-care & daily mindfulness practice for the betterment of relationship dynamics within families, workplaces and society as a whole.
I work to inspire others to live the best version of themselves by truly becoming aware of the limiting belief systems that are keeping them rooted in patterns of physical, mental and emotional pain.
These are two that events that Laura has coming up in the next couple weeks.
